The laboratory study of minerals, rocks, topographic maps and aerial photographs, landforms and landscapes, structural geology, and geologic maps. The purpose of this course is to provide a thorough introduction to physical geology and to prepare you for multiple upper-level geology courses, especially G221/G222, G303, G334, G323.  Towards this end, the course will cover earth materials, plate tectonics, representations of the earth, and geomorphology.  Study will include a mixture of lecture, hands-on labwork as well as fieldtrips. The best way to learn about the science and profession of geology is to experience it.  For this reason there is one required Saturday fieldtrip.  You are also encouraged to attend additional trips or events that will be announced throughout the semester.
