Fall

Feeding the city explores concepts in sustainability science through close examination of our local and national food systems. Approaches we will employ include greenhouse gas and nutrient budgeting, life cycle assessment, and systems analysis. We will pay close attention to the environmental impacts of food production, distribution, and consumption at the national, regional and local scales focusing on the united states, the Midwest, and Indianapolis, respectively. The course will include interdisciplinary explorations, including historical, social and scientific.  There will be an emphasis on learning about the local food system through a combination of student led discussions, field trips, and group projects.  There will be opportunities to apply for a related summer internship.
