Save the Date! April 24, 3pm, Dr. Mirksy Memorial unveiling by IUPUI Geology Club

Greetings from the Department of Earth Sciences,

You are cordially invited to help us celebrate the unveiling of a new memorial to Dr. Mirsky organized and sponsored by the IUPUI Geology Club on Thursday, April 24 starting at 3:00 in the afternoon.  This event will happen just before the Second Annual Mirsky Memorial Lecture at 4:30 pm given by Dr. Lonnie Thompson from the Ohio State University.  Dr. Thompson is one of the world's leading climate scientists and a member of the National Academy of Sciences.  He is a Distinguished Professor and Research Scientist at the Byrd Polar Research Center where Dr. Mirsky was Assistant Director before founding the IUPUI Geology Department in 1967.

Schedule of events:
3:00-3:30  Gather in the Department of Earth Sciences
3:30-4:00  Unveiling ceremony in the sedimentary rock garden outside the SL/LD building (SW corner of Michigan and Blackford Streets)
4:00-4:30  Make way to the lower level of the University Library for a reception prior to the Mirsky Memorial Lecture
4:30-5:30  2nd annual Mirsky Memorial Lecture in the Lilly Auditorium at the IUPUI University Library
5:30-??     Gather for a social/beer hour at Chancellor's Restaurant about a block from the other events

The students have worked hard to create a tribute to Dr. Mirsky and hope to see you there.  No need to RSVP.
