Admitted students may be appointed as research assistants or as teaching assistants in introductory earth sciences courses. Assistantships include remission of tuition, most fees, and health insurance. The university provides no recurring assistantships. The department generally provides funding for at least two teaching assistantships per year for introductory lecture or laboratory courses. One research assistantship per year is available to a new out-of-state student through the Arthur and Pat Mirsky Graduate Fellowship endowment, and several additional research assistantships are typically available each year, supported by faculty research grants.
