Recruitment Overview

If a high school student, parent or educator contacts you to arrange a visit or request information about our programs:

  1. Direct them to to identify and schedule a visit through  IUPUI Science Visit website
  2. Notify the School's associate director of undergraduate recruitment, Nicole Amonette, at namonett@iupui.edu or call 317-274-4598
  3. Complete (or have the student complete) the Contact Form.

Undergraduate recruitment in the School of Science involves all levels of communication and contact with high school students in grades 9th-12th and their families/educators. This includes, but is not limited to, the following activities:

  • Guidance to prospective students, families and educators regarding: academic programs, scholarship programs, support services, other University initiatives
  • Management of proactive communication, including phone campaigns
  • Recruitment coordination between the school, its programs and departments, the University, high schools, and other key community partners in STEM education
  • Representation of the school to prospective students, parents, high school science teachers and counselors and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process
  • Management of on- and off-campus recruitment events
  • Management of the Student Ambassador Leadership Team and the Science Ambassador Recruitment Volunteer program
  • Recruitment related research and data collection
  • Development and maintenance of recruitment content for a wide variety of media
  • Compliance of all recruitment activities with all government, school and University policies

High School Student & Group Visits (On Campus)

If a high school student, educator or parent contacts you to arrange a visit or request information about our programs:

  2. Notify or direct the student to the School's associate director of undergraduate recruitment, Nicole Amonette, at namonett@iupui.edu or 317-274-4598.
  3. Complete (or have the student complete) the Contact Form.

Prospective Students & Admitted Students

  • Science JagDays: Students who have not yet applied to IUPUI are encouraged to visit during a campus visit day, which will include time with Science as well as other critical units on campus.
  • Fall Fest:

  • Campus Tours: Tours of the IUPUI campus are typically available Monday-Friday at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. However, there may be exceptions to these days and times. The agenda begins with a presentation and video, followed by a 90-minute guided tour led by current IUPUI Student Ambassadors.  
  • Science Open Visit Hours: Open Visit hours vary by semester due to Science Ambassador schedules. Open Visits allow students to visit Science either before or after a campus tour and will ensure that the student receives a thorough experience during their time on campus. Students must be registered for the visit at least 5 business days prior to their desired visit date. Spaces are limited 5 students and schedules are subject to change.
  • Housing Tours: To ensure that visitors are provided with the best experience, housing tours are available through each Community Office during its regular hours.

Science & Pre-Science Students

The following opportunities are also available for students who have been directly admitted to the School of Science or to IUPUI as a pre-science student*:

  • Experience a science class
  • Shadow a current science student in their discipline of interest
  • Science Spring Previews:
  • Overnight experience program**

*Special exceptions for this opportunity may be provided for non-admitted students, at the discretion of the Associate Director of Undergraduate Recruitment.
** Open to all IUPUI admitted students.

Group visits

Requests for large group visits should be emailed to ScienceAmbassadors@iupui.edu.

If you are planning an on-campus event or visit for high school students or educators, notify the School's associate director of undergraduate recruitment, Nicole Amonette, at namonett@iupui.edu or 317-274-4598.

We may be able to provide:

  • Recruitment related-programming: student panels, lab/building tours, etc.*
  • Volunteer recruitment assistance*
  • Logistics support (room reservations, parking, food)*
  • Admission advising
  • Appropriate and timely follow-up procedures
  • Proof of service and relevant enrollment outcomes
  • Contact/tracking form (Required for contact with all high school students, parents & teachers.)
  • Recruitment materials & School of Science giveaways. Complete the form a minimum of 2 weeks prior to event/activity date.

High School Outreach (Off Campus)

If you are contacted to present at a high school or a community organization that serves high school aged students, you must notify the School's associate director of undergraduate recruitment, Nicole Amonette at namonett@iupui.edu or call 317-274-4598

We may be able to provide:

  • Recruitment related-programming: student panels, lab/building tours, etc.*
  • Volunteer recruitment assistance*
  • Admission advising
  • Appropriate and timely follow-up procedures
  • Proof of service and relevant enrollment outcomes
  • Contact/tracking form (Required for contact with all high school students, parents & teachers.)
  • Recruitment materials & School of Science giveaways. Complete the form a minimum of 2 weeks prior to event/activity date.

Contact with High School Students, Parents & Educators

We cannot holistically serve our prospective student populations without the time and expertise of our non-recruitment faculty and staff. Because of this, we understand that students may contact or be contacted outside of standard visit procedures.

Promotional Items & Marketing Collateral

The School provides promotional items based on the type of event or activity for which the items are being requested.

  • Typical items for K-8 outreach include pencils, stickers, outreach flyers. 
  • Typical items for high school outreach include pens, bags and informational packets. 

Request must be received a minimum of 2 weeks prior to event date. Submit request form.

Exhibit Hardware

Items available include table clothes, easels, literature holders, and a few banners and posters.

Request must be received a minimum of 2 weeks prior to event date. Submit request form.

Policies

Working with Children Policy
To receive promotional and collateral materials or exhibit hardware, you must complete the required steps for the Working with Children Policy. Order fulfillment will not begin until confirmation of compliance has been received.

Contact Cards
Contact cards must be distributed and returned within 2 business days of event.

Evaluation
An evaluation survey must be completed within 5 business days to help us evaluate the impact of your efforts as well as the quality of our support.

Volunteer to Open Your Lab/Classroom

Each semester we survey faculty who are interested in assisting with our on-campus recruitment events by offering classroom visit opportunities or lab tours. We also love to hear about your current research and how your work helps our undergraduate students to be successful!

Request support for a recruitment visit or event

Report your activity

Any contact with high school students, parents or teachers should be reported to Nicole prior to the contact. If for some reason, this does not occur, email Nicole with the following details:

  • Event name
  • Event date
  • Event purpose
  • High school or organization name
  • Number of students
  • Student contact information: At minimum include name and grade. If available include: email address
  • Materials requested, if applicable

We will compile this information for reporting purposes, and can provide a summary of all involvement upon request... and maybe a special prize or two!
