Chemistry & Chemical Biology Awards Presented at the 40th Annual Honors Convocation

INDIANAPOLIS-- Dozens of School of Science students, faculty and staff were recognized during the 40th annual Honors Convocation, honoring scholarship winners and outstanding students across all science departments. The event was held April 12 in downtown Indianapolis.

Associate Dean Kathy Marrs, also an associate professor of biology, served as the mistress of ceremonies. Dean Simon Rhodes made opening remarks, noting that the annual event serves as a celebratory occasion to honor students, faculty, staff and donors in one place: “Without the concerted efforts and determination of all four groups, the School of Science would not be what it is today.”

  • Patricia A. Boaz Award: Peter Coleman, chemistry
  • Loren T. Jones Award: Ashley Riley, chemistry and forensic and investigative sciences
  • Frank J. Welcher Award: Ahmed M. Malik, chemistry
  • American Institute of Chemists Student Research and Recognition Awards: Hayley M. Grzych, chemisty; and Floyd A. Timm, chemistry
  • Bonner-Ferguson-Kelley Scholarship: Callie D. Meece, chemistry
  • Outstanding Undergraduate Analytical Chemistry Student: Karl N. Blodgett, chemistry
  • Scott Alan Kent Memorial Scholarship: John Wells, chemistry
  • Loren T. Jones Memorial Scholarship: Elizabeth J. P. Alexander, biology
  • CRC Freshman Chemistry Achievement Award: Luis A. Ramos, biology
  • Rich - Keller Elementary Chemistry Scholarships: Crissia M. I. Hernandez, respiratory therapy and pre-professional medicine; and Ndeye B. Seck, electrical engineering technology
  • Chemistry and Chemical Biology Graduate Dissertation Scholar: Jian-Yuan Li, chemistry
