Bruce Sidner

Bruce Sidner, 1971 alumnus of the Department of Earth Sciences at IUPUI and current president of Houston, Texas, based South River Exploration, will visit the School of Science Thursday as the keynote speaker of the inaugural Drs. Arthur and Patricia Mirsky Memorial Lecture.

Sidner will deliver "Journey from IUPUI to the Oil and Gas Fields of the Gulf of Mexico: An alumnus' past experience and future perspectives" beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 11 in the lower level of the IUPUI University Library. The presentation will discuss Sidner's long and successful career in oil exploration as well as his fond memories during his undergraduate years at IUPUI. He went on to earn a master's degree and a Ph.D. in geological oceanography from Texas A&M University. He previously has worked for Exxon, Pogo Producing, Hall-Houston Oil and Energy Partners.

Sidner will also reflect on his personal interactions with Art Mirsky, the founding chairman of the Department of Earth Sciences at IUPUI and the former professor emeritus for the department. Mirsky, who along with his wife Patricia have been longstanding scholarship supporters of the department, passed away in June 2012. Sidner regularly credits Art Mirsky with encouraging him as a student and after graduation as he pursued success in his oil career.

Refreshments will be available beginning at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 11 in the Lilly Auditorium in the lower level of University Library.  We hope to see you there.
