Science Represented Well at Chancellor's Honors Celebration

Several faculty and students in the School of Science at IUPUI were honored recently at the annual IUPUI Chancellor’s Academic Honors Convocation.

Gabriel Filippelli, Ph.D., professor of Earth Sciences and director of the Center for Urban Health, received the 2013 Chancellor’s Faculty Award for Civic Engagement. This award is given annually to faculty that exemplify high standards of civic engagement, professional service or service learning.

Michael Yard, lecturer in Biology, received the 2013 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. This award recognizes faculty who create opportunities and an atmosphere for IUPUI students to succeed.

Leslie Ashburn-Nardo, Ph.D., associate professor of Psychology, received the 2013 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Multicultural Teaching.

Alexander Stufflebeam, a mathematics and economics major at IUPUI, was named a School of Science Chancellor’s Scholar.

John Kraihanzel, a mathematics and economics major, represented the School of Liberal Arts as a Chancellor’s Scholar.

Eric Keller, a senior biology and chemistry major, represented the Honors College as a Chancellor’s Scholar.

Tomas Meijome, a senior chemistry major, was named the IUPUI Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Research. This award is presented annually by the Center for Research and Learning is to candidates who display excellence in research, scholarly and creative accomplishments and remain committed to community service.

Yogesh Joglekar, Ph.D., assistant professor of Physics, was presented the 2013 Kathryn J. Wilson Award for Outstanding Leadership in Mentoring Undergraduates. This annual award recognizes individuals who make significant contributions to promoting undergraduate research at IUPUI.
