Science Students Honored With Plater Medallion

Six students in the School of Science at IUPUI have been named recipients of the 2012 William M. Plater Civic Engagement Medallion.Plater

Biology majors Kathryn DelaCruz, Jessica Jackson, Daniel Popoola, Pich Seekaew and Ashley Winfield joined Colleen Games, a student of the Forensics and Investigative Sciences program, in receiving the Plater Medallion.

Recipients this year represent a broad variety of backgrounds, majors, and types of engagement that have had a major impact both on the IUPUI campus and within the Indianapolis community. All six students are involved in campus and Science organizations.

The William M. Plater Civic Engagement Medallion is designed to honor IUPUI students that are most dedicated to civic engagement. This engagement could take the form of volunteer service at a non-profit agency, participation in a service learning course, contribution of voluntary work on a political campaign, advocacy on specific social issues, and involvement with a faculty member on a community-based research project, or employment in a community work-study position.
