Student Programming Contests

This year we are excited to announce that winners of each contest will be awarded a $1000 freshman scholarship to IUPUI! Recipients must apply and be directly admitted to IUPUI and to the Computer Science undergraduate program. Winners will also receive awesome prizes from our sponsors, including X-Box games, programming books, and other great swag!

Teams of two will compete in one of three categories:

  • Programming & Problem Solving:  Ready to test your skills and solve a series of progressively more difficult brain teasers? The Traditional Programming contest is for you! Pair up with your partner and puzzle through a series of challenging programming problems. Participants should know at least one of the following languages: C, C++, Java. Download contest guidelines. Practice problems for the contest can be found at http://www.karrels.org/Ed/ACM/.
  • Web Development:  Are you a web guru? Know the latest in CSS3 and HTML5? Well even if you don’t, this contest will use your existing web development (HTML) skills to develop even more powerful and exciting web experiences with a partner. Download contest guidelines. Because this is a highly interactive contest, and challenges change each year, no practice problems are available.
  • Game Programming: No experience is needed to begin developing your own games. Learn from Andy Harris, author of several books on game programming, and create your own games with a partner that you can develop and play today! Download contest guidelines. This contest requires no experience, and thus no practice problems are available.

Teacher Training Workshops

Workshops offer the latest computer science teaching tools and methods in areas such as databases, web development, and game programming as vehicles to teach difficult math and programming concepts. IUPUI faculty will present useful tips and tools that can be used in Indiana classrooms to meet state standards on courses such as Computer Programming and Computer Applications. Participation in the full day earns a teacher 3 CRUs.
