Bepko Scholars also receive two years of on-campus housing and are required to live in the Honors Residential Learning Community, located in the Campus Apartments on the Riverwalk, their freshman year. Dean of Science Scholarship (For Freshmen)

NOTE: Information below subject to change for the 2017 cohort of students, pending review of scholarship criteria in light of the new SAT exam.

Students who have applied for admission by November 15, as incoming freshmen for the following Fall semester, who have a minimum high school GPA of 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) and who score 1250* or higher on the SAT or 28 or higher on the ACT may be eligible for this scholarship.  Applications received on or before November 15 will be given priority consideration. The number of scholarships and amount of each scholarship varies depending upon the number of eligible students.

The School of Science Dean’s Scholars Program is designed for beginning School of Science freshmen. Contingent upon availability of funds, a Dean’s Scholar who is a beginning major may be supported for up to eight regular (fall/spring) semesters provided that the student continues in a degree program in the School of Science as evidenced by enrollment patterns and maintains an overall GPA of at least 3.50. An award recipient may hold only one scholarship funded by the School of Science. Students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S.

Award Amount: Varies, depending on criteria stated above, but is minimally $2,500 per academic year renewable up to $10,000 for four years.

Diversity Scholars Research Program

The Diversity Scholars Research Program (DSRP) is primarily aimed at attracting academically talented first-year students, contributing to the diversity of IUPUI. DSRP scholars are actively engaged in undergraduate research opportunities, supervised by faculty mentors. Students in the program are part of a group of undergraduate scholars who benefit from the research activities, individual support and scholarship funding leading to graduation with a four year degree. Priority is given to incoming high school students who meet minimum eligibility requirement. A continuing IUPUI student may apply and awards are based on availability. This award is made to students in a variety of majors at IUPUI and is highly competitive.

Eligibility requirements for incoming high school students

  • Student must be in the top 25% of their graduating class and have at least a 1070 SAT (math and critical reasoning sections only) or 23 ACT score.
  • Student must have at least a B grade in all math and science courses.
  • Student must supply at least two (2) letters of recommendation, one which must be from a math or science teacher.
  • Student must be an Indiana resident and/or be a US citizen or permanent resident. A scholar may continue in the program for up to 4 years if he/she maintains a cumulative 3.00 GPA.
  • Students from racial and ethnic populations who have been historically underrepresented in institutions of higher education and whose presence will enhance the learning environment through increased diversity at IUPUI are encouraged to apply.

Dr. John D. Barnwell Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. John D. Barnwell Memorial Scholarship is to be awarded to a continuing science major in the School of Science who has effectively integrated the sciences and the arts into his or her undergraduate career, going beyond the minimal requirements of science majors for courses in the arts and humanities.  The nominee may be pursuing a double major in science and arts and humanities, or pursuing a minor in the arts and humanities.  Or, he or she could be involved in the arts and humanities in other ways.  For example, having art as a hobby or playing in an orchestra, or just being a patron of the arts.

Furthermore, the nominee should reflect the character and values that Dr. John Barnwell represented and encouraged.  These are:  high personal standards of ethics and scholarship, respect for the principles of friendship, and a deep appreciation for the importance of process in the conduct of one’s life.   That is, how does the nominee handle life?  What set of life affirming and honest values does he or she possess which overcome the circumstances of his or her life, making it productive, satisfying and inspirational to others?  One letter of recommendation from a School of Science faculty member is required.

Earth Sciences Air & Waste Management Association Scholarship

The Air and Waste Management Association (AWMA) Scholarship is offered to Earth Science (Geology and Environmental Science) undergraduate and graduate students. Students considered for this scholarship must be a graduate or undergraduate student in Earth Sciences, be a US citizen (or permanent resident) and an Indiana resident, successfully completed a minimum of 9 credit hours towards an Earth Science degree including GEOL-G110 or GEOL-G107 (undergrad applicants only), and be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA..

The Indiana Geology and Gem Society Scholarship is made possible by a generous gift from the Indiana Geology and Gem Society to support an Earth Sciences (Geology and Environmental Science) student who is within twelve months of graduation at the start of the Fall semester. 

Students considered for this scholarship must be majoring in Environmental Science or Geology, be in good academic standing with a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA, and must enroll in a minimum of 9 credit hours in the Fall semester after the award is granted.

Award Amount: One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to be used towards tuition, fees and books for Fall semester.

Indiana Latino Scholarship Fund

The Indiana Latino Scholarship Fund (ILSF) was established nine years ago when a group of non-profit organizations collaborated to support Latino students focused on furthering their education.  The ILSF has supported hundreds of students by awarding $1.5 million in scholarships.

The IUPUI School of Science will provide students who receive a scholarship from the ILSF an additional scholarship equal to the award they receive from ILSF. To be eligible for the scholarship match, the recipient must attend IUPUI as a full time student and major or pre-major in a School of Science undergraduate degree program. Recipients who remain enrolled as a science major at IUPUI and maintain a GPA of at least 3.5 will continue receiving the scholarship annually.

International Student Grant Program

The International Student Grant program provides scholarships to international undergraduate and graduate degree-seeking students who have a strong academic record and who are experiencing severe financial hardship. The student must hold F-1 or J-1 student visa status, be assessed tuition at the out-of-state rate, and have completed at least two semesters of full-time coursework at IUPUI at the time the award begins.

International Student Scholarships

IUPUI offers many scholarship opportunities for international students!

  • All scholarships require full-time enrollment (12 credit hours or more per semester) in the fall and spring semesters.
  • If you take the SAT or ACT examination more than once, the highest scores will be used for scholarship consideration.
  • Funds provided by these scholarships do not cover intensive English as a Second Language study.

IUPUI Academic Excellence Scholarship

Students who have a minimum high school GPA of 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) and who score 1150 or higher on the SAT or 25 on the ACT may be eligible for this scholarship. To be considered for renewal, students must attend full time and maintain a 3.00 GPA (no separate application required).

Award Amount: $3,000 annually for 4 years

IUPUI Chancellor's Scholarship

Incoming freshmen who apply to IUPUI by November 15 and meet the following criteria are eligible to be selected for an IUPUI Chancellor's Scholarship and direct admission to the IUPUI Honors College:

- A cumulative high school GPA of 3.75 (weighted)
- A minimum ACT composite score of 28 or SAT score of 1250 or higher (SAT critical reading and math scores combined)
- Complete the Honors Online Application

The Honors College provides access to specialized advising, state-of-the-art facilities, and opportunities to conduct research and participate in leadership development. To be considered for renewal, students must attend full time, be an active participant in the Honors College and maintain a 3.30 GPA (no separate application required).

Chancellor's Scholarships are not available for Spring Entry students.

Life-Health Sciences Internships

Life-Health Sciences Internships connect IUPUI life and health sciences undergraduates with research and professional experience internships on and near the IUPUI campus. This program helps students to explore their career objectives and future career pathways while also fostering valuable professional connections between students and faculty and staff. The students belong to a community of interns and mentors who support one another throughout the internship experience and beyond. Internships run from the end of August to the beginning of May. Positions pay $10 per hour for up to 10 hours per week (15 weeks per semester for two semesters). 

Math and Science Education Scholarships

The Math and Science Education Scholarship (MSES) Program offered by the Urban Center for the Advancement of Math/Science Education (UCASE), is designed to encourage and to support outstanding IUPUI current or transfer students who have had a strong math or science based major and who wish to pursue a career in math or science teaching at the middle and/or high school level.

Midwest Student Exchange Program Award

Attention residents of Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Wisconsin, your IUPUI experience just got better. Beginning fall 2016, IUPUI will provide legal residents of Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota or Wisconsin tuition at 150% of the in-state rate. What does this mean for you? The average tuition for an out-of-state student is about $29,000 per academic year. If you qualify for the Midwest Student Exchange Program Award, the cost of IUPUI tuition would be approximately $12,000 per academic year. Over four years, your tuition savings could be more than $66,000!

Neal-Marshall Indianapolis Alumni Chapter Scholarship

The mission of the Neal-Marshall Indianapolis Alumni Chapter is to facilitate interactions between IUPUI and Indiana University African-American alumni, students and prospective students residing in the Indianapolis metropolitan area and to engage them in activities targeted for professional, academic and social advancement and success. The Neal-Marshall Alumni Club is named in honor of the first African-American graduates of Indiana University (Marcellus Neal, BA 1895 and Frances Marshall-Eagleson, BA 1919).

The Neal-Marshall Indianapolis Alumni Chapter Merit Scholarships will be awarded to one male and one female undergraduate or graduate who is enrolled at the Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus during the next academic semester. The Neal-Marshall Indianapolis Alumni Chapter Merit Scholarships will be awarded to students that demonstrate strong academic abilities and leadership skills as well as financial need.

Norman Brown Diversity & Leadership Program

The Norman Brown Diversity & Leadership Program is designed to recruit, retain and prepare serious, academically gifted students who have demonstrated a commitment and/or desire to develop leadership skills for today’s multicultural world. Program participants are encouraged to attain academic success, engage in leadership and civic activities, and prepare for work force entry. All scholars are required to enroll full time; maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA; participate in specific program functions; and meet on a regular basis with an assigned IUPUI faculty/staff mentor.

Eligibility Requirements: Beginning freshman applicants must meet IUPUI’s regular admission criteria (Indiana Core 40/Academic Honors diploma or equivalent), have a SAT 950 or ACT 20 and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Plater International Scholars Program

The Plater International Scholars Program is designed for incoming freshmen who are committed to combining academic excellence with global citizenship.  This highly competitive scholarship program is for students with an interest in international affairs and cross-cultural experiences.  Plater International Scholars will be actively involved in international programming, both off and on campus.  In close cooperation with the Office of International Affairs, recipients of the Plater International Scholarship will be exposed to high profile international visitors, international seminars, and lectures. 

Award Amount: $12,000 per year for four years of study, $2,500 for a study abroad experience, and a $2,500 housing stipend for their freshman year.

Pre-Med Club IUPUI Academic Scholarship

The Pre-Med Club of IUPUI has established a scholarship program designed in part to support tuition and books for undergraduate students with intentions of pursuing medical school. Based on availability of funds, this scholarship will be awarded once a year in the Fall semester. This scholarship recognizes an outstanding student who will be a junior, or first semester senior during the time the scholarship is awarded. Robert Noyce Transition to Teaching Scholarship

The Robert Noyce Transition to Teaching Scholarship program (T2T) provides $12,000 stipends for career-changers or college graduates who wish to become certified math or science teachers, and agree to teach in high-need school districts for two years. The T2T program is highly selective and rigorous, with hours of embedded field placement.

Robert Noyce Scholarship recipients are awarded on the basis of academic merit, with consideration given to the established financial need and diversity of applicants in the program. To be considered, applicants must be admitted to the IUPUI's One-Calendar-Year Transition to Teaching program in the School of Education, and must hold a bachelor degree (or adequate content course work preparation) in biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences/geology, mathematics, engineering, or technology.

The Sam H. Jones Community Service Scholarship Program recognizes what you’ve already accomplished: it’s awarded based on exemplary service in the community, in your high school, or at IUPUI. But it’s really focused on what you’re going to do next.

STEM Education Research Experience

The Urban Center for the Advancement of STEM Education (UCASE) is offering three promising undergraduate, STEM or STEM Education majors an opportunity to participate in the STEM Education Research Experience. This experience is designed to encourage students with an interest in STEM or STEM education to develop inquisitive and critical perspectives on urban education. It also provides opportunities for students to learn more about the theories, methods, and findings of STEM educational research.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program offers undergraduate research project and travel grants and conference travel funds to support and encourage undergraduates who participate in research and other creative projects with faculty in all disciplines, including music and art. Students who are ranked first or second in their high school class may qualify for this scholarship.
