Helping the Helpers: Investigating the Health and Safety of Healthcare Professionals

Speaker: Stephanie Andel, Ph.D. Location: Centerpoint Brewing Company

Join us for a cold drink and some enlightening conversation at the latest installment of Science on Tap! This series is sponsored by the School of Science & the School of Science Alumni Association and is a 21 and older event.

In April, Stephanie Andel , Ph.D., will present "Helping the Helpers: Investigating the Health and Safety of Healthcare Professionals". Healthcare professionals such as paramedics and nurses are exposed to a number of uniquely stressful situations at work. For instance, they regularly witness traumatic events and are often forced to deal with patient violence. These stressful situations are linked to a number of negative health outcomes, including post-traumatic stress symptoms and burnout. This presentation will discuss recent research that attempts to shed light on how healthcare professionals can effectively cope with their unique work stressors, and on what healthcare organizations can do to support the health, safety, and well-being of their employees.
